Wimbledon Introduces Video Review System This Season.

The Championships court with replay system

Wimbledon will follow the American and Australian Opens in utilizing replay systems.

Replay technology will make its debut at Wimbledon for the 2025 edition.

Athletes will gain the ability to contest particular decisions from the official, mirroring the protocol currently in use at each of the American Grand Slam and the Aussie major.

This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining featured courts when they are staging singles contests.

This development arrives only a season following the AELTC rolled out electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line judges.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Competitors will not be permitted to challenge the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review other decisions, including:

  • Whether a ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
  • Potential interference end of a point.

Notably, there will be an unlimited number on the amount of challenges a player can ask for.

A Recent Example

An illustrative example occurred in a recent tournament last week, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player conceded it was a tough call for the umpire, but believed his rival had "played the rules effectively."

The umpire watched a replay and determined the player was responsible for hindrance, granting the point to his opponent.

Broader Adoption

This technology aren't new for major tournaments. It was adopted at the US Open since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by next season the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.

Additional Innovations

Another innovation at Wimbledon 2025 will be the introduction of graphical cues on displays to complement the audio calls from the electronic line calling system.

This addresses situations where fans have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.

Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
