Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in power within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to undertake their separate journey, apart from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features Teor Pridesire (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, connecting the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Soldiers Table

As described by the DM, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Motivations for Departure

First, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a violent initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose demise initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to dispose of.

Casimir then cleared his debts and ran away to a secure base in the remote area, above the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and warns that it is a dangerous location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could help the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a eternal obligation to Wicander for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
  • The target is marked for death by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s follow-up content, we learn that the Soldiers table will not appear next week, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.

Fans can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
